I'm so glad I'm not a single mom....

Andrew is out of town this week in San Francisco for a work conference.  He's only been gone for one day and I'm exhausted!

Of course, Sawyer has been sleeping through the night - well, until at least 5 - the last couple of weeks but last night he woke up at 2:30 and was up until almost 3:45.  Then woke up again at 6.  We actually had a pretty good day in general.  He was in a good mood even though he didn't nap too long but I could not wait until bed time.  Hoping he sleeps better tonight since I have to work tomorrow.

All I can think of is "I'm so glad I'm not a single mom."  I don't know how they do it.  If you are a single mother (or father) my hat is off to you.  On normal days I've certainly had my moments where my patience is waning and I can't wait to hand off the kid once my hubby gets home.  I can't imagine not having that second person to help out.  I would go insane.

That's all for today.  I'm going to do something mindless for a little while, wait for Andrew to call and then go to bed.  Hoping Sawyer sleeps well tonight....

9 Month Update

Sawyer is 9 months old!  At this point he has now spent as much time in the outside world as he did in my belly.  Its hard to believe that 9 short months ago we had this little 7 pound guy who was so small and snuggly.  Now we have a 22 pound ball of fun.  Sawyer is so much fun right now - full of smiles, laughs and screeches.  This month has brought us our first tooth, first baseball game,  lots of new foods, and the start of him moving (and finding trouble).

Sawyer weighs 22 lbs (75%), is 29 long (75%) and his head is 18 inches (50-75%).  He is in size 4 diapers and in 12 month jammies.  He is still in some 9 month and 6-12 month clothes though the pants are starting to get on the shorter side.  Its a good thing that summer is coming - he looks so cute in shorts!

Developmental Milestones
He is still not crawling yet but is definitely mobile.  He figures out where he wants to go and then rolls to get there.  And he can get pretty much anywhere.  He tends to gravitate towards electrical cords (yikes!).

He can get up on all fours but can't quite figure out how to move forward.   He is getting the pincer grasp down and is feeding himself.  He has certainly learned how to screech....loudly.  He isn't into babbling consonants yet though likes when you babble at him.  He also likes to watch you clap but hasn't figured out how to do it himself - though he does like to hit his hands on his thighs repeatedly.  He loves to shake toys that make noise.

The biggest new is he finally got his first tooth!  His bottom right tooth finally broke through last week.  Its a sharp little sucker!  He was super cranky the day it finally popped.  Now its a waiting game for the other bottom one (and the rest of them) to pop through.

This kid has no problems eating.  He is really into feeding himself these days.  He still eats purees from a spoon but would much rather feed himself.  We've been giving him a lot more finger foods - string cheese, peas, diced and steamed sweet potatoes etc.  His new favorite food is English Muffin - he eats a half of a muffin at almost every meal.  Green beans are one of his favorite purees and he loves his Mum Mum rice crackers. He still gets 5 meals at the milk bar on a daily basis.

For the most part, sleeping is pretty good.  We've had a few rough nights with the teething and then a growth spurt.  We've gotten several nights of no wake ups but he is an early riser - 5:30 am on average.  We aren't sure if that is because its so light so early or if he's waking up because he's hungry but all in all I will take 5:30 vs getting up at 2 am.

Napping has also been much better - he takes 3 naps during the day and has gotten a lot better about napping in his crib.  Mommy can have some downtime (a necessity for my sanity) and some time to get housework or other things done.

Likes and Dislikes
Sawyer is a pretty happy kid.  He loves to laugh, he loves to be in his stroller, he loves car rides.  He loves his puppy dog - he watches Charlie wherever he goes and gets the biggest grin when he gets a puppy kiss or gets to touch his fur.  He likes to play in the bath tub and loves to ride on Daddy's shoulders.

There's not a lot he doesn't like.  He is a cranky pants when he doesn't get his nap in.  He's still not a fan of having his nose or face wiped.

I feel like this is such a fun age.  We've gotten into a good routine, he's sleeping well, he's interactive and fun.  I'm excited to watch him discover more things, start moving more and begin to talk.  We have so much love for this boy. And I know I'm a little biased, but how cute is my boy?

Project Bye Bye Baby Weight update

I've been doing Stroller Strides for a little over 2 months now on a quest to lose the rest of my pregnancy weight.

So, I thought I'd post an update on how things are going.

First, I really really like my classes.  I'm making some good friends with the other moms and can definitely tell I'm getting stronger.  The first day of class I could hold a plank for about 10 seconds before I couldn't hold it any more.  Now I can hold it for at least a minute (longer if its at the beginning of class vs. the end).  I can do lunges with the best of them.  I think I've done five thousand step ups in the last two months.

I can tell that my body is subtly changing.  I've got some definition in my arms, you can see my collar bone a little better.  My clothes are fitting just a little bit looser.  I no longer have to wear 2 sports bras to reign in the girls.

The scale, however, isn't reflecting my hard work.  I know my diet hasn't been strict or stellar - those darn cheese danishes!  I have lost a few pounds, just not as much as I would have hoped.  I've heard that moms who don't lose most of their weight with breast feeding quickly hang on to the last 10 pounds until they are done breast feeding.  I suppose that may be me and I won't see those pounds gone until September.

March 2013 | June 2013

So, I'm going to continue to go to class. I've reached the point to where I miss going to class if I don't get to go.  I really like that feeling.  If I could get motivated, I'd like to add a run in on my off days from class just to keep up my fitness.

I'm also considering doing a 10 week Body Back class.  Its another aspect of Stroller Strides that is 2 additional classes per week that are minus kiddos and much more intense.  They do fitness assessments and body measurements before and after, weekly weigh ins, meal planning and food journals etc.  Its that extra little bit that I think I need to compliment my current routine.  Plus, the instructor of my class is insane tough and I know that I would get some fantastic workouts in.

I'd also like to start running more consistently.  I love when I'm in good running shape, I just hate getting there.  When I watch or hear of people running 1/2 marathons I get a desire to do so.  Then I actually go for a run and want to die.  Right now with Sawyer's sleeping still being so variable I am not about to get up early to run.  After work I'm usually too tired and there's just too much to do after work to get a run in.  So, I'll have to figure out how to get back to the running.

So, that's my progress.  It's harder than I thought it was going to be but I love that I'm getting healthier and hopefully starting to teach my son good habits.  Thanks for all of your support friends!

Mid Week Confessions

Hi Friends!

Good news!  Sawyer has finally learned to nap in his crib for longer than 40 minutes at a that means I will hopefully be able to be more consistent with my blogging.  That's assuming I can be more organized than a bunch of random thoughts on my post it note app on my phone....

But anyhoo, how about some confessions for the week?

- Remember how I mentioned that Sawyer was eating the dog hair in the carpet? Proof in point, I saw dog hair in his poop.  This weekend we used our steam cleaner to shampoo the carpet on our main floor where Sawyer plays the most.  Even after vacuuming before we started we were still getting clumps of dog hair up with the steam cleaner.  So once it was dry we vacuumed again and pulled up about another dogs worth of hair.  Sheesh!

-Sawyer's hair is ridiculously out of control.  At this rate he needs a cut about every month.  The children's salon I went to charged me $23 for a hair cut that literally took about 5 minutes for them to do.  Add in tip and I'm going to be spending at least $25-$28 a month on a haircut.  That's more than I spend for my own hair!  So, I figured I try and save some cash and cut his hair myself.  I'm no hairstylist (though I do watch Tabatha's Salon Takeover on a regular basis) and it was more difficult than I though given Sawyer rarely keeps his head still.  It turned out okay.  I certainly need more practice....or maybe I'll just find a cheaper kids salon.  What do you think?

After - you can't really tell in the picture but it is not blended very well.  Tabatha would be very disappointed in my work.

- I bought cupcakes to celebrate my intern's last day in the clinic.  I resisted buying a cupcake for myself but did buy a frosting shot (READ small cup of pure frosting - cookies and cream!) and ate it in the car.

- Speaking of fancy treats, I have been really good about not getting a cheese Danish on my Starbucks run after workout class.  But Starbucks just launched their new pastry campaign and I just had to try the new cheese Danish (to compare of course).  I call it having no will power being an educated comsumer.  The new one is served warm and it does have 110 less calories than the previous one.  It was fantastic.

- Its 78 degrees here today.  Currently my living room says is 74 inside (a big difference from our standard 63-65 that we keep it regularly even in winter).  Its entirely too hot for my liking.  I'm a weather wimp(read about it here).  I love summers in Washington but above 75 and I'm out of my happy zone.  Seriously.  Weather wuss.

Well friends, I hope to be seeing you more often.  I want to update all of you on my Bye Bye Baby Weight project, some new things I'm trying in my every day make up and beauty routine as well as hash it out with some hashtags.  Have a great week!
